Dear GCC Community,
Greetings from Greensburg Central Catholic! It has been an exciting few months since I officially assumed responsibility as principal on July 1. In the coming year, I look forward to collaborating with our talented staff and supportive families to improve our facilities, expand our educational opportunities, and rededicate our work to the “Glory of God Alone.” Some of that work has already begun.
Without buildings, we would not have a school, and over time, repairs and improvements must be made to keep Central a place that alumni and students are proud to call home. In July and August, we replaced the roof, renovated the first-floor boys bathroom and several offices, and repainted stairwell doors. Additionally, through the funding of generous donations at recent galas, the stadium received a facelift this summer, including the repainting of the aging scoreboard and power washing of the bleachers.
Later this year, we will finish that project by adding new 25-second clocks for use during football games. Finally, a new sound system was installed in the auxiliary gym just in time for our back-to-school Mass, again funded through generosity of a GCC benefactor. While still in the planning phase, we are also thrilled to announce that we are exploring the installation of facility-wide air conditioning and are hopeful that some sections may be completed this year!
A major concern throughout our country, and certainly among school systems, is building security. While we have been blessed to operate in a safe environment, one must only look at the news to recognize that all schools need to be vigilant in updating security measures. Using funds from a security grant, we recently installed fifty security cameras throughout our campus that provide full coverage of the grounds twenty-four hours a day. The use of security cameras in schools is pro-forma in more than 80% of schools in our country and allows us to be proactive in emergency preparedness.
Another focus this year is rebuilding community. GCC did a wonderful job of navigating through the pandemic, and our parents certainly worked hard to find opportunities to interact, even if only virtually. Now, with the waning of the pandemic, we are excited to look for future opportunities to gather and bring members of our community together again in person.
Finally, as I shared with parents in my introduction at our annual back-to-school gathering, we are not a private school, but a Catholic school, and that distinction makes all the difference. We have the blessing and challenge to bring Christ to our students in every aspect of the school day. As principal, I pledge to rededicate our school to its founding Catholic mission and bring the truth, goodness, and beauty of God’s world to our students, a mission and message that will always endure with paramountcy here at Greensburg Central Catholic.
The 2022-2023 school year is off to a great start, and I look forward to meeting you in the months ahead.
May the peace of Christ be with you all,
Kevin Frye
Principal
